We explain all the important terms relating to textile printing in sports retail

Definition of flex printing

Flex printing is a textile printing process in which special motifs are cut out of colored foils and then transferred to the textile. This process enables detailed and elastic prints on different materials, especially on textiles such as T-shirts, sweatshirts or sportswear. It is a popular method for creating individual designs or logos on textiles.

The advantages of flex printing

  1. High ink coverage: Flex printing enables high ink coverage, which means that the printed designs are clearly visible on the textile, even on dark or colored fabrics.
  2. Elasticity: Flex printing is particularly elastic, which means that it adapts well to the movements of the textile. This is particularly important for sports and leisurewear that is frequently stretched or in motion.
  3. Durability: The colors of flex printing are generally long-lasting and can withstand many washes without fading or damage.
  4. Detailed designs: Flex printing enables detailed designs with clear lines and sharp edges. This is particularly important when it comes to reproducing logos or complex graphics.
  5. Versatility: Flex printing can be used on various textiles, from cotton and polyester to blended fabrics. This makes it very versatile.
  6. Fast production: The flex printing process is generally fast and efficient, resulting in rapid production of printed textiles.
  7. Environmentally friendly: Some flexographic inks are environmentally friendly and do not contain any harmful substances such as PVC or plasticizers.

These advantages make flex printing an attractive option for companies that want to offer high-quality, durable and individually printed textiles.

What to consider with flex printing

  1. Material selection: Not all textiles are equally suitable for flex printing. It is important to choose textiles that have a certain elasticity to ensure that the print can follow the movements of the fabric.
  2. Design adjustments: When creating designs for flex printing, care should be taken to ensure that lines and details are not too intricate. Elements that are too fine could be lost during transfer to the textile.
  3. Color selection: The choice of color is crucial. Dark colors on dark textiles or colors that are too light on light textiles can impair the visibility of the print. It is important to choose high-contrast colors.
  4. Heat and pressure settings: The correct temperatures and pressure settings during the transfer process are crucial. These vary depending on the flex printing material and textile type. It is important to follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
  5. Test prints: It is advisable to carry out test prints on a similar material before larger quantities are produced. This makes it possible to identify and adjust any problems at an early stage.
